Romario

Former Brazil striker Romario is reportedly set to turn his hand to politics and may even run for President in the South American country. The 43-year-old is currently under investigation for tax evasion but that hasn't stopped him throwing his cap into the political arena with the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB). Some are speculating that the party will look to cash in on their newest member's popularity with the public and have him run in next year's presidential elections, but the official line is more diplomatic, with Alexandre Cardos, the PSB's Rio de Janeiro state chairman, explaining that the former footballer will need ideas to back up his fame: "Romario will have policies and can't just depend on the votes of his supporters." Romario himself agreed, adding: "I could be a candidate but my goal is to help children and sport. If I manage to get elected, I could help people in need. To get votes I need projects. I'm one who backs up his words."
